Working under the supervision of the Lab Manager, the Lab Engineer will work at the cleanroom facilities across campus. The main activities will be:
With minimal supervision he/ she will perform different activities:
On a daily base will check the level of consumables in the clean room and refill them if needed; control the stocking area and supplies and proceed with ordering procurements and refills (includes N2 dewars).
He/she will maintain a standard of cleanliness in the cleanroom by surveying particles count, by interacting with the cleaning service personnel and by enforcing the respect of cleanroom protocols. He/she will also periodically take care of interacting with EH&S for the standard disposal of waste (regular and hazardous).
Train interns and staff on the basic operations and safety protocol of the clean room, on the operation of basic tools and some more complex tools.
With the help of staff scientists, find innovative and original technical solution to specific problems that may arise during the normal laboratory operations.
The nanofabrication facility has a wide and sophisticated set of tools for lithographic processing, pattern transfer, material deposition, imaging and characterization (SEM, AFM, lasers, optical benches, and others)). The engineer may be trained to operate them and will be able to do so safely and efficiently, if needed to meet deadlines
In collaboration with other staff he/she will perform the scheduled and unplanned maintenance for some of the infrastructure and some of the tools, either directly operating them or by coordinating with technical support services.
The engineer will be asked to follow all the standard operating and safety procedures and walk new users in the clean room. He/she will encourage the safety behavior in the clean room and will look after the users to maintain the laboratory a safe and pleasant environment.
He /she will also implement safety procedures and controls for operations involving hazardous activities (SAA, Toxic Gas Monitoring System, and related PPE)
In coordination with other staff members he/she will identify and solve problems, implement alternative courses of action, optimize processes and protocols for nanofabrication projects and propose new ideas.
Ensure efficient use of resources time by coordinating schedules with users and staff. Collaborate with staff to organize activities and improve communication with other facilities.
