Facebook's Messenger Kids is a stand-alone app for kids under the age of 13 to communicate with close friends and family. It has fun and age-appropriate features coupled with parental controls and safety features. Parents use Messenger to connect with their kids. Messenger Kids is currently available in the US, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Thailand. The research team's focus is to provide a safe, fun, and age-appropriate app experience for families.

The product team is mission-oriented, principled, and deeply rooted in research. Research's role on this team encompasses future-oriented looking research to inform product direction, guiding immediate feature development and optimization, and working closely with data science, engineering and design on feature implementation.
The ideal researcher is
  • collaborative, including not just researcher team mates but all product functions,
  • passionate about kids and families
  • a strong product thinker
  • skilled and experienced in qualitative or quantitative research methods
  • able to get buy-in from stakeholders and communicate research findings in a compelling and actionable way



  • Quantitative Researcher: You excel at designing, implementing and analyzing surveys, joining them to log data, and love working with DS, DE and Engineering. You love looking at data and dashboards yourself to help inform your research questions. Ideally you have experience in or are interested in learning how to set up your own experiments. Research Scientists welcome!
  • Qualitative Researcher: You love coming up with creative approaches to glean deep insights from kids and parents and connect them back to product impact. You have a rigorous approach to qualitative research and possess a toolkit of participatory design, diary studies, and interviews. You know that working with kids means having to get creative. Design Thinkers welcome!

BA/BS degree human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, etc.) MA / PhD preferred. 3+ years eExperience in applied product research.
