Our work ranges from formative to evaluative, ethnography to usability. For this position, we are looking for a range from qualitative specialists to methodological generalists, with broad skills in qualitative and design research methods.


This position is based in our Menlo Park, California office. The right candidates will be excellent communicators, passionate about user research, comfortable in a flat, fast moving organization, excited to collaborate, and focused squarely on impacting the Facebook experience.



  • Work closely with cross-functional product team (product management, data science, engineering, marketing, design, content strategy) to identify and prioritize gaps in the user experience and customer understanding
  • Generate actionable insights that both explore broad understandings and evaluate product experiences
  • Plan and execute end-to-end generative and evaluative research across the Jobs ecosystem, Family of apps - Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger
  • Design hypotheses and lead studies that examine behaviors and attitudes across multi-faced customer segment: consumers, businesses, and partners globally
  • Leverage strong communication and facilitation skills to proactively collaborate and help bridge alignment within and across diverse teams
  • Communicate research insights and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways to help foster empathy, elevate customer understanding and help achieve product and business impact
  • Willingness to travel
  • 3+ years experience in applied product research
  • Expert in qual research and user-centered design methods, including but not limited to concept-testing, competitor analysis, diary studies, contextual inquiry/observations, or ethnography. Motivated to use creative but rigorous qualitative research methods with expert facilitation skills
  • Ability to ask, as well as answer questions for business
  • Strong and persuasive written and verbal communication skills
  • MS/PhD, human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, etc.)
