[Pivot] 3D Automation Engineer II


  • Gather data including images, video from cameras and cellphones, and 
    anthropometric measurements of research participants
  • Gather 3D scans of research participants' torso, head, ear and auditory canal
  • Rendering and lighting of 3D spaces and/or objects
  • High-poly 3D modeling of room interiors and other objects for VR and acoustics testing
  • Low-poly modeling for real-time engine use
  • Organic sculpting on high-poly 3D meshes using Zbrush
  • Geometry validation in Meshlab, Meshmixer, and other tools
  • Create scripts in Autodesk Maya, Python and other tools to automate production pipeline
  • Use Autodesk Maya for mesh creation, manipulation of organic and hard-surface modeling, generation of dynamic FX simulations, and mechanical, bipedal, and character animation rigging
  • Use Wrap 3 for mesh manipulation, point annotation, and low-poly wrapping
  • Use Artec Studio to scan study participants with the Eva and Spider scanners
  • VR level creation and optimization in the game engines Unity3D and the Unreal Engine for deployment to VR headsets or PC, along with necessary scripting in C# and Blueprint to integrate interactivity
  • Optimized UV mapping of hard surface and organic 3D models
  • Physically based procedural material creation via Substance Designer and application using Substance Painter

 


  • Interact with study participants in a safe and professional manner. This includes any or all the following: screening participants, obtaining participant consent, assuring the privacy and confidentiality of participants and their data, instructing study participants and guiding them through study procedures, running the study procedures, collecting the data per study design, formatting and annotating the data, and creating basic reports regarding the data. The 3DE’s are expected to follow procedures related to maintaining confidential information and handling of confidential data
  • Perform routine inventory checklists and maintenance on research study equipment
  • Research new hardware and software that could be implemented to improve data collection workflows
  • Coordinate with researchers and manage implementation of any required changes to research study protocols
  • Prepare and deliver technical write-ups and/or presentations to researchers regarding any of the study procedures managed in this role
  • Assist team with onboarding of new 3DSEs. Duties include 3DSE shadowing and serving as POC for questions about standard 3DSE tasks, software and tools
  • Very strong organizational and interpersonal skills: ability to manage and instruct research participants while dealing with multiple aspects of a complex research experiment
  • Experience with using 3D laser scanners and 3D modeling software (see above)
  • Experience with working with study participants in user research a strong plus, particularly if the candidate has run psychophysical experiments
  • Strong sense of ownership and willingness to take on odd jobs to support the main research goals
  • Leading candidates will be technology-minded, proactive, clear communicators, and have strong attention to detail

College degree or equivalent work experience.
