Room Acoustics Measurement Technician (9033365)

Facebook Reality Labs is working to connect people and build social value through the development of augmented reality technologies. We are focused on the next generation of AR systems that produce authentic audio experiences in VR. The team consists of researchers in design, perception and user research working with engineers, product managers and artists.
As part of this effort, we are seeking candidates with room acoustic measurement and analysis experience for a special project. Candidates should have experience in room impulse response measurement and analysis, including the design and construction of acoustic measurement systems. The right candidates will be excellent communicators, knowledgeable about audio systems and software, passionate about spatial audio, comfortable in a flat, fast moving organization, excited to collaborate, and focused squarely on impacting audio experiences in AR. This position requires some travel and extensive field work. Duties include:

  • Design and construct a mobile room acoustics measurement system
  • Produce measurement trip plans to account for logistics, time constraints, and space use constraints
  • Collect dimensional, video, and acoustic data from a wide variety of spaces
  • Analyse collected data to produce room acoustic parameters such as reverberation time
  • Work with database engineers to incorporate collected data into existing databases within he format requirements, and expand database structures as necessary
  • Work with research scientists to provide the data in unique formats
  • Work independently in the office and in the field

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in architectural acoustics, mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field
  • 1+ years experience with architectural acoustics consulting, including field measurements
  • 1+ years experience working with loudspeaker and microphone systems
  • 1+ years experience using Matlab and Max/MSP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sound field recording using higher order ambisonics microphones
  • Master's degree in architectural acoustics, mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field
